The
Robertson Treatment Christopher
Reid
Having already enjoyed successful careers in music and films
entertainer Christopher Reid is rare act to follow in the
precarious and highly competitive world of Hollywood. In fact,
his track record is so impressive that it would seem that
Reid has mastered the elusive pursuit of "making it" in an
industry not well-known for its second acts.
Perhaps best known as one half of the popular 80's pop/rap
duo Kid 'N Play, which he parlayed into a career in films
("House Party" & "House Party II"), Reid has proven himself
to be an industrious entertainer who continues to diversify
his creative skills with a series of popular and engaging
properties.
As the host of the new urban comedy showcase series "Phaturdays"
the ex-flat-top rapper is again at the center of another innovative
entertainment experience. Developed by veteran TV producer
Kyle Bowser, and executive produced by film and video wunderkind
Billy Woodruff, "Phaturdays" would be best described as a
cross between Saturday Night Live and Def Comedy Jam. Offering
loads of outrageous stand-up and hilarious sketch comedy,
the show takes a raw and wacky look at issues taken from everyday
life.
"I
kind of happened into this project by accident," Reid recalls.
"Through some mutual friends I met Kyle and Billy who introduced
me to their concept for this show and I was immediately won
over. To call this show funny is a complete understatement-it's
hilarious. Everybody needs a good laugh, especially right
now with all of the stress and heart ache in the world today.
"Phaturdays" delivers that and more."
In fact, being funny is becoming a way of life for Reid who
in addition to hosting "Phaturdays" has embarked on a new
phase in his long career as a stand-up comic. Currently touring
to sold out venues across the country with his thought-provoking
brand of humor, the thirtysomething New York native is optimistic
about this new phase in his career.
"I'm a real big student of history," he says. "I've studied
the careers of people like Jackie Gleason and Sammy Davis
Jr. and learned how they managed to keep their careers going
over the long haul. What I discovered is that you have to
stay true to yourself and be open to explore new opportunities.
Regardless of what you do, the more avenues that you leave
open, the more chances you have to succeed."
"Phaturdays" airs on Wednesday nights on the pay-per-view
cable network IN Demand. For show times and local listings

Happy New Year and congratulations to the winners of The Robertson
Treatment's 5th Anniversary Trivia Question. Over 3,000 readers
tried to guess the identity of the celebrity featured in our
1st column on September 13th 1997. 468 Robertson Treatment
readers guessed correctly that Samuel L. Jackson was featured
for his role in the engrossing family drama Eve's Bayou."
Mmm, Mmm, good! The Robertson Treatment was recently invited
to the annual New Years Day celebration given by gospel maven
Vicki Mack-Lataillade (CEO, Gospo Centric). Held at the Lataillade's
fabulous new home high in the Santa Monica Mountains, the
gathering featured great food, music and was a great way to
kick off another year. Besides knowing how to throw a great
party, the Lataillades also preside over a growing gospel
music empire that in the coming months will release new music
from Trin-ntee 5:7, Ray Bady, former Dru Hill member Woody,
plus a new record from superstar Kirk Franklin. Thanks again
for a great time!
Proving once again that the denizens who populate Hollywood
are really a generous lot is Sicily, one of the young stars
of the highly rated UPN comedy "One on One". In an effort
to build self-esteem and encourage girls ages 12 - 14, the
young actress is preparing to unveil her "Marching Towards
Success" mentoring program. Stay tune for further details.
Congratulations to my "babygirl" Taragi Henson who is now
reporting for duty on the popular Lifetime crime drama "The
Division". Most recently seen along side Tyresse in director
John Singleton's hit film "Baby Boy," the DC native takes
on the role of Raina Washington.
Speaking of "The Division" fans of the show will surely miss
actress Lela Rochon who is taking a break from acting while
she and her director husband Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day")
prepare for the arrival of their first bundle of joy later
this year. Congrats to both! Finally, let me give a shout
out to my boy Steven Bradford who celebrated his birthday
in grand style this past weekend in LA.
