The
Robertson Treatment Mary, Mary
(Jul.
16, 2002) Offering praise from their hearts, delivered with
passion and harmonious style, the two sisters who comprise
the duo Mary, Mary are on a mission to spread the divine word
of gospel. On their debut album, "Thankful" (which included
the hit single, "Shackles" ) the sisters -- Tina and Erika
Atkins exploded on the gospel and secular scene with their
mix of tightly woven vocals, set against a backdrop of hip-hop
and funk urban rhythms. With a platinum album, a Grammy and
multiple Stellar Awards for their tightly woven vocals set
against a backdrop of hip-hop and funky urban rhythms. "The
reaction to our music has been more then we ever imagined,"
says sister Tina. "We've been blessed and we want to shared
those blessings with everyone."
Los
Angeles natives, Erica and Tina first began singing in their
church choir, where their superlative vocals gained them an
appearance on the "Bobby Jones Gospel Show." Soon both sisters
were delivering background vocals for Kenny Lattimore, Brian
McKnight and Eric Benet, before a chance encounter with super-hot
producer Warryn Campbell landed them their record deal. "After
hearing them just once, I knew that Tina and Erica had the
talent to make it as artists" says Campbell, who recently
married Erika. " With their vision, charisma and power, these
two ladies can do everything."
With
their new album "Incredible" just out, and
a successful tour with gospel artists Shirley Caesar and Yolanda
Adams in the can, the close knit sisters are well on their
way to fulfilling their lifelong dreams. Says Erica, "We're
doing what we love... what makes us very happy. God willing---we'll
be able to continue on our mission to share the love and grace
of God's world with the world."
