Tyrese
Hey
Tyrese, Watts Up?
He's
the man with the plan, with dual priorities that include staying
on top of the R&B game and giving back to his community.
Tyrese
is a guy who never stops moving forward. Even after his alleged
breakup with chanteuse/actress Brandy a few months ago that
left him
distraught, he was able to pull himself back together and
finish up his long
awaited new CD.
This nice-guy-in-a-stud's body has a lot going on in his life.
His latest album, 2000 Watts is in already in the Top 10 after
only two weeks on the charts where it looks positioned to
stay for a while. But this album is about a lot more than
Tyrese making loads of "cash money." When we asked
him about the curious name of the CD, he revealed the title
refers to the name of a kids center that he plans to build
in his hometown of Watts, "I am going to build a facility
where kids will have every sort of sport offered, not to mention
a computer workshop and tons of classes. It'll be even better
than a private school, and there will be full-time counselors
for
the kids to discuss their problems. When I lived in Watts,
I had to watch my back
all the time, and I want the kids in my old neighborhood to
have a safe haven where
they can do something productive."
Tyrese is also proud of his recent film debut in "Baby
Boy", director John Singleton's follow-up to the late
90's megahit, "Boyz In Da Hood". He says, "It
was so exciting to work with John on my first film role--I
couldn't have had it better. Baby Boy is a very real, hardcore
street action
movie like Boys In Da Hood, and I play a messed up grown man
who is still a mama's
boy."
Tyresse actually confessed to that with this film he wasn't
so much concerned his acting as he was with thought of having
his mother seeing his nude scenes! Before taking off to the
Hollywood premiere of Baby Boy, he told us, "Im
nervous about my mom seeing me exposed like that. Of course
I know that shes seen me before, but that was a long
time ago. I know that I am not going to be able to look her
in the eye during those sex scenes, and I can only imagine
the comments that she's going to make, like 'Boy, you have
no shame!""
And what are Tyresses thoughts about co-star Ving Rhames
showing his ahem, assets, as well? "Well I think Ving
is more muscular than I, and a lot more confident in both
his body and acting career, so showing his rear was no big
deal," he comments. "It was just pat of the job
for him. But honestly, I have heard more comments from female
reporters at the screenings about Ving's posterior than
mine. I guess I have to go back to the gym!"
Although he clearly enjoys being a R&B sex symbol, Tyresse
is quick to point out that he
doesn't spend much time worrying about his outer appearance.
"I workout, but
I am also very much into meditatingwhich is why I have
a house out in the woods 90
minutes north of LA. I also enjoy reading philosophy and self-help
books, which I think keeps my inner being sane when I have
to deal with the stress on the outside." Mmm, sounds
to me like this "baby boy" certainly has got the
right
attitude!--
